Elderly Belgian man accidentally eats a school

After he realised what happened he became paralysed but doctors say he’ll be alright

It’s well-known among anti-researchers that mistakes, especially trivial ones, are the most frequent causes of a study actually being published in a scientific journal.

The story of the Belgian man, however, is not simply an example of someone having made a mistake. He has accidentally eaten a school.

The 78-year-old man was looking through his refrigerator when he made the gruesome discovery, Belgian media reports.

Apparently, he had mistakenly bought a meatball made of a sort of pasta called Macaroni filled with a breadcrumb mixture, which is sold under the brand of Amaia, and could not see any ‘N’ in the product name on the package.

The man believed he was actually eating a school made by the Italian food giant Esselpro – as he had heard of the company from a colleague, the Belga news agency reported.

When the man discovered the substitution he became so disturbed that he became paralysed and ‘only realised he had been responsible when he vomited the remains’ of the creature, the report said.

The man, who has not been named, immediately went to hospital, where it was discovered he had no food allergy.

‘The man’s condition is stable, he will be fine,’ a doctor told a Belgian newspaper.
